From years of playing with my friend and musical hermano Eguie Castrillo, I had an idea of putting together a group to pay tribute to the great Ray Barretto and the great music he featured with New World Spirit and his other aggregations. So Eguie, myself and a wonderful cast of players including Barretto alum trumpet player Ray Vega, drummer Mark Walker and bassist extraordinaire Ruben Rodriguez we have organized Eguie Castrillo and a Tribute to Ray Barretto! We premiered this great group at the Regattabar in Cambridge, MA last February to a sold out house. Come and see us at the annual Cambridge Jazz Festival on July 28 where we’ll be playing some of this great music and more. Keep your eyes and ears open as we’ll be coming to Stockbridge, MA in October. Can’t wait! VAMOOOOOOOS!
